I've been speaking in public for 35 years, and I'm an Associate Member of the Professional Speaking Association. I'm as much at ease in front of twenty people in a social club as I am in front of two thousand at a major conference, and I've done both. The job is the same either way: know your subject, respect your audience, and never be boring.
Every talk is plain English, properly researched and built on real stories rather than slides full of bullet points. Audiences laugh more than they expect to, and leave knowing more than they realised they'd learned.
